National Nuclear Laboratory

This is a Christmas card I designed alongside Manchester-based design agency, The Raft, for the National Nuclear Laboratory. At a time when I was juggling a few christmas images, and the themes and imagery were getting a bit stale, it was nice to receive a brief that forced me to think outside the [gift] box a little.

This job had a very quick turnaround; I think it was just under a week from start to finish. It was a pleasure to finally work with Creative Director, Phil Howells; a man who once gave me a Silver award in the ‘Best in The North’ competition.

AMMO Magazine

The above image was created specifically to feature in Issue 6 of AMMO Magazine.

I have been a follower of the magazine for some time and had a great respect for the work that is put into the publication. It is an independently run magazine that is “dedicated to finding and exposing the best illustrators in the world!”

After submitting a few images to AMMO, they asked me to submit an image to be featured in the magazine and online. However, there was no brief to work to and other than the dimensions of the image I had free reign…which always scares me! Luckily this time, I had been doodling snake charmers whiles waiting to receive feedback on another job. I was really enjoying drawing his turban and so decided to run with it.

Below are a few of the sketches and rough ideas I had; I’m still not sure where the telephone came.

You can order Issue 6 of AMMO here along with all of the back issues…there is a lot of really great work to be seen as well as a beautifully produced piece of print!

I was commissioned by The Times Eureka magazine to illustrate an article about the links between science and magic. It is published today so if you are a reader, keep a look out for this little dude!

A couple of months ago I was contacted by the art-director at Mac User Magazine, who asked if I wouldn’t mind being interviewed for their “Showcase” section. I had to answer a series of questions and supply them with a few hi-res images. I was expecting at most a half page section, which would have been amazing to say the least. Imagine my surprise when I open it and am welcomed by a four page spread.

I apologise for the quality of the pictures, I don’t have a good enough camera and had to use my phone camera.
